exhibit: A Month of Sundays
Time is elusive. Despite our attempts to structure time into measured components from milliseconds to centuries, it often feels like an illusion. As pressures and constraints govern our lives, many feel that time is flying, marching, and speeding by. Inspired by the southern turn of phrase, “a month of Sundays”, (which implies a prolonged period) this exhibition allows us to press pause on our busy lives and discover how modern and contemporary artists explore the concept of time.
Workshop: By Way of Revolution
Organized into five themes, Slow Time, For the Duration, Passage of Time, Take a Breath, and Marking Time, the works of art in the exhibition reveal how we mark and experience time within our own bodies and in the environment.
Come see the art on view and find what speaks to you. What pieces draw you in? We encourage you to lose yourself in the moment and rebel against our fast-paced world by engaging in the act of slow looking as you explore A Month of Sundays.
Terry Adkins and Peformance
Join artist, writer, and curator Clifford Owens and curators Katie Delmez of the Frist Art Museum, Jamaal Sheats of Fisk University Galleries, and Stephanie Weissberg of the Pulitzer Arts Foundation for a virtual happy hour conversation on artist Terry Adkins. The group will discuss the artist’s multidisciplinary performance practice and the early influences that inspired it. As a member of Adkins’s performance collective, the Lone Wolf Recital Corps, Owens will share a lineage of the group and reflect on its legacy.
